Job ... Branch Administrator

21st 2008.Branch Administrator, band 4, 15 hours per week. 9am - 2pm Tues, Weds and
Fri (exact hours negotiable).
Band 4 NHS pay is currently £8.62 - £10.36 hr - the union is in
negotiation for an above inflation rise backdated to 1st April.
Based in the Oxford Cowley office, lone working and reporting to the Branch
Secretary in first instance and ultimately to the Branch Committee and Branch
members.
Personal qualities
- Highly efficient and organised, good at team working with other staff and
elected reps and officers.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Commitment to the trade union movement and ideally an understanding of UNISON
structures and procedures.
- Diplomatic and supportive approach to members some of whom may be
distressed.
- Respect for the principles and practice of a member led union.
- Close identification with the needs of members and stewards.
- Computer literate with ECDL computing skills or equivalent
experience (broad knowledge of a package like Microsoft Office).
- You would also need to be prepared to do training 2 days a month for 3
months to use the union database system.
Job Description
Essential requirements.
This job involves job sharing and working with a fellow part time administrator to:
- Organise and operate office procedures effectively
- Take and produce accurate minutes of complex national, regional and trust
developments. The minutes being key documents
authorising expenditure and the industrial and campaign priorities of the
branch.
- Be accurate in reporting member and regional queries.
- Have joint financial responsibility for petty cash, responsibility for
advising Secretary of supplies needed in branch office and actioning agreed
orders. Day-to-day liaison with landlord, council and utility companies.
- Operate normal office equipment (computers, printers, fax machines and
answerphones) plus, with training, high speed printers and poster production.
- Produce of monthly analysis of recruitment / turnover figures from the
database plus outputs for steward teams (following training).
- Respect member confidentiality and a basic knowledge of data protection.
- Be prepared to help with light manual work (<20Kg): bi monthly handling of large scale
newspaper distribution plus helping out with basic office housekeeping.
Desirable
- Knowledge of UNISON structures and procedures.
- Occasionally be willing to work flexibly including weekends and evenings
when major events are taking place.
- Be prepared to develop technical skills with training:
- Maintaining email lists.
- Basics of web maintenance.
